Weekly Photo Challenge: Abandoned

I was in absolute awe when I visited the Puye Cliff dwellings in New Mexico. From this vantage point, I thought I was simply admiring a beautifully rugged face of a cliff, but as I ascended each terrace and meandered through abandoned caves and chambers, I began to imagine families living and thriving in this amazingly cozy setting, tucked away safely in the bosom of their mountain. The Santa Clara, who descend from the Pueblo Native American inhabitants of Puye, will forever have a spiritual connection to this area, and for me, it served to remind me of  the intimate relationship indigenous peoples have with their environments.
