“What are your wishes for the coming year?”
For one of their last prompts of the year, Across the Bored had me thinking about how I could make my wishes come true. Lately, as I reflect on what is most important in my life, I wish I had a clean bill of health. Both my parents and I have fallen ill. Whether due to old age, hereditary traits, or our lifestyle, we each are facing some challenging decisions in the coming year. I just wish we didn’t have to worry about which path of treatment we need to take.
Deciding whether to proceed with an intrusive surgery, or opt to try Chinese Herbal Medicine, or opt to do nothing and ride it out, has been on my mind the past few months. It seems that during this festive holiday season, I usually am faced with some life changing experiences I never knew I would ever have to face. I don’t know how much more I can handle without caving in. I think my stress level has really reached its peak. A random stranger, who curiously listened to a conversation I was having with an old-time friend about the challenges I was facing, came up to me after my friend left, and told me, that He (referring to God) knows how much I can handle. And, that life has a funny way of proving that what we think we know, we really don’t know. But, that we really need to have faith that He will help us get through this difficult time.
I hope that others are fortunate and stay healthy. Being healthy is so important in order to enjoy all the things that life has to offer. As the Spanish saying goes, may you all be blessed with “salud, dinero y amor” (health, wealth and love) in the coming year!
